Sindo hack caught cogging

Twenty Major has hauled Andrea Byrne of the Sindo (reg. req.) over the coals for some pretty clearcut plagiarism. Cogging is the cardinal sin in this job and only an idiot would do it.

What I can’t understand is that Byrne (who I don’t know) obviously didn’t cog most of her article, as it is largely made up of quotes from assorted sources. So why would she lift two lines from a six-month-old blog post?

I could forgive her taking an idea mentioned in the blog post and going off to research whether or not it holds water. Nothing wrong with that. But to just retype someone else’s words without even having the wit to phrase the point differently smacks of the sort of cocky stupidity that makes me want to wallop the perpetrator.

  • Did you ever wallop her?

  • Of course not. I’m a spineless hack.

Furthermore, I don’t know her and it might be a bit much to clout her directly if we are ever introduced. Mind you, the trade has become markedly more boring than it used to be so perhaps I should consider it. Liven things up a bit, like.

  • It’d be some way to introduce yourself though.

    “Kathy, meet Andrea.”

    *SMACK*

  • It could be a fast track to fame. If we made sure it happened in Renards with a tipped-off snapper present, the two of us could give pouty nonsensical interviews to Barry Egan about our bitter feud for months afterwards.
